DIY Cineskates (Gear Blog)

This is a very easy DIY dolly using a Gorillapod Focus. You only need one tool to put it all together (a wrench). Takes about 4 minutes. You can use any model Gorillapod (I used the Focus because it holds 11 lbs / 5 kg). If you use a smaller Gorillapod, you’ll want to swap out the size of the hardware I list below to whatever is appropriate.

HARDWARE:
Three 1/4-20 Wing Nuts – $2.30
Three 1/4-20 x 1-1/2 Hex Bolts – $2.36
Three 1″ Conduit Hangers (Lowes calls it a “Rigid Clamp” on their site)- $2.10
Six 1/4″ Lock Washers – $0.66

Total Hardware: $7.42 + tax

You’ll also need some inline skate wheels. You can get an 8 pack with bearings for $25. Oh, and add your favorite head of course (I use a fantastic Markins ball head).

I got my idea from this guy: flickr.com/photos/mycryptonauts/6160173266/ At some point I’ll probably add a piece of steel to give the wheel more clearance.

This is based on the very cool Cineskate, which I’ll probably buy at some point.
